WINNERS - Snap Judgment

Sponsored by the private Swiss bank Pictet & Cie, the Prix Pictet is the world’s first award “dedicated to photography and sustainability.”  Last year’s short list included Canada’s own Edward Burtynsky—and he’s on the list again this year, alongside contemporary art star Andreas Gursky and fellow Canadian (and New York resident) Christopher Anderson. Anderson’s moody monochromatic images capture Venezuela’s oft-devastating industrial development, from strip mines to sugar cane fields. The winner of the award is announced in Paris in October.
