Who’s behind it? MBDC (McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry), an environmental consultancy founded by the authors of the seminal book Cradle to Cradle. Their approach to sustainability attempts to “eliminate the concept of waste” by viewing waste as “food” for future materials and processes.

Found on: a range of products including building materials, beauty products, reusable diapers, fabrics, floor coverings, cleaning products, whiteboards and accessories.

Ensures that: “waste equals food,” e.g., that products are intelligently designed for continuous reuse, and that materials remain in closed-loop systems. In other words, these products are created using safe and healthy materials that will either biodegrade or be fully recycled into high-quality materials. Water and renewable energy must also be used efficiently in creating the products.
