Who’s behind it? The Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), an international not-for-profit organization working to prevent illegal exploitation, poor management, conversion to other land uses, severe degradation or complete destruction of forests worldwide.

Found on: wood products (such as doors, flooring, furniture, lumber, paneling and window frames) and paper products. Some printing companies are also FSC-certified.

Ensures that: a set of strict environmental and social standards is followed by certified companies. These standards include:

  • complying with all applicable laws/treaties/land rights;
  • respecting indigenous peoples’ rights;
  • sharing benefits derived from the forest;
  • reducing environmental impact;
  • maintaining ecological integrity of the forest, and more
