Small Is Beautiful

What these pint-sized sustainable homes lack in size, they make up for in design ingenuity.

Walking House

Taking micro-architecture one step further, n55 has created a six-sided house that walks on six hydraulic legs. At 3.5 metres high and 3.7 metres long, the house—complete with solar panels, a composting toilet, rainwater harvesters and micro wind turbines—is designed to be completely self-sufficient, liberating its owners even more than the run-of-the-mill low-cost micro dwelling does. Artist Ion Sorvin of n55 doesn’t expect walking homes or floating octahedron clusters to become the norm—he just wants people to start thinking about housing differently by showing just how far we can go… literally.
