Small Is Beautiful

What these pint-sized sustainable homes lack in size, they make up for in design ingenuity.

Shrinking even smaller are these “microdwellings,” created by Danish artist collective n55. The truncated octahedrons, with eight hexagonal and six square faces, are designed to be modular: units can be attached together in clusters as families grow (or separated when they split). And they are weather hardy—the Danes have already submerged a cluster of these in Copenhagen’s harbour. The design isn’t for sale—it’s free. Download the manual and build it yourself.
