Breezy Idea: WhalePower

The founder of the biomimicry movement, Janine Benyus, has said: “After 3.8 billion years of research and development, failures are fossils, and what surrounds us is the secret to survival.” Few people have taken that message to heart as successfully as the WhalePower Corporation. Founded in 2004, the company is testing a truly unique technology inspired by the fins of the humpback whale—a creature that’s remarkably agile, despite its size. WhalePower’s concept? Put a bumpy, artificial fin on a commercial wind turbine, pump or fan to boost its stability and efficiency, as well as cut down on noise.
