A Guide to Edible Flowers

Easy to grow, tasty to eat!

Daylily

Some lilies aren’t edible, but not so for perennial daylilies (Hemerocallis spp.). They can be used to add drama to your dinner: Scatter their graceful petals in a salad, or add some sweet and crunchy buds to a stirfry. Or, take a lesson from Chinese cuisine, and add daylillies to a soup dish.

Tip: Small, unopened buds are best for eating, as mature flowers can be bitter.
