Dress them up and take them to dinner

Ozery’s Pita Break Shares some ideas to spice up your pitas!

What started off as a Toronto-based family owned bakery and sandwich shop in 1997, Ozery’s Pita Break has since evolved into a Canadian household brand (you can find Pita Break at most grocery stores including Loblaws, No Frills, etc.) and most recently, they have expanded into the United States.

We were able to taste test some of their organic products:

  1. Organic Whole Wheat Lavash Crackers
  2. Spelt Lavash Crackers
  3. Organic Whole Wheat Large Pita

But Organic or not, a pita or cracker, at the end of the day is just a plain ole pita or cracker. So how can we dress these babies up and take them to a dinner party?

So we asked Ozery’s to give us some ideas, and boy did they give us ideas!

Check out these 3 recipes.

Pumpkinseed and Sundried Tomato Pesto on Organic Spelt Crackers

This pesto is made with roasted pumpkinseeds which are often called pepitas. It is ideal for people with nut allergies, who may want to enjoy the flavour of a pesto.

Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups roasted salted pumpkinseeds (pepitas)

  • ¾ cup grated parmesan cheese

  • ¼ cup sun dried tomatoes in oil (drained from oil)
  •
¼ tsp black pepper
"8" large fresh basil leaves

  • ½ cup extra virgin olive oil

  • 12 Organic Spelt Lavash crackers

Directions:

  1. Place pumpkinseeds, parmesan cheese, sun dried tomatoes, pepper and basil leaves into the bowl of a food processor. Pulse for a few seconds to blend. Add olive oil in a slow stream while continuing blending until desired consistency is obtained.

  2. Remove from machine bowl, place in serving bowl and chill until ready to serve.

  3. Garnish with additional sundried tomato pieces or basil leave if desired and serve with Pita Break’s Organic Spelt Lavash crackers. Yields approximately 2 ½ cups of pesto.
