Dream Green Jobs

Considering an environmental career? Start your Green Job search here

With the green job sector set to grow as other sectors suffer are a great incentive to get skilled in sustainability. The Canada-based Environmental Careers Organization forecasts that employment growth in green sector jobs will have surpassed Canada’s national average by 23 percent by 2011. Plus, two-thirds of existing green employers are slated to boost their hiring in the next two years. In a tough job market, it’s even better news that sectors not traditionally associated with being green—such as marketing or construction—are also poised to hire more staff to support their environmental initiatives.

I have posted my job listing at http://www.goodworkcanada.ca/greenjobs.php?id=11084 and I want to change our website contact details from http://www.solaracademy.ca/contact.html to http://solarpro.catchthebest.com/apply/5024 When I contacted www.goodworkcanada.ca Peter responded immediately and made changes as per my wish and gave me a link for any future alterations to my listing. I'm thankful to Peter as well as www.goodworkcanada.ca for this great help.
I am an Environmental Studies grad student at University of Waterloo participating in a 'green automotive engineering' competition called EcoCAR. I've enjoyed this slideshow's topic, because I often wonder where my latest degree will lead me (undergrad in Business Adminstration from Wilfrid Laurier University). Some of the things we are working on as students in this EcoCAR competition have given me a whole suite of (hopefully) employable skills and knowledge in green automotive technologies and community outreach work. If you are interested in this sort of thing, check out our car design at www.uwaft.com or the competition website at www.ecocarchallenge.org. We also hope to be at the Green Living Show in April! Hope to see you all there!
Gretchen--not sure what you're talking about...

For YEARS Peter Blanchard has provided the "green community" with an invaluable and FREE resource in the form of his Planet Friendly web portal. Peter has volunteered his time to create and maintain this resource and only recently began asking users of the site for donations to support this INCREDIBLY worthwhile effort. What Peter offers is far and beyond a job posting site, and is far different from what (relative newcomers) Work Cabin and ECO Canada offer. I suspect that rather than attempting to divert traffic away from other sites, Peter is simply attempting to make people aware of ALL the resources that they have at their disposal. I see absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Personally, I have found employment through his site, learned of interesting events through his site, found resources that have helped me in my work through all of the links he provides, found resources to help me in my personal efforts to live in a more environmentally sustainable manner on his site, and have found information that has helped me write many a research paper. The only criticism I can possibly think of is that the site has some broken links and could use some updating, which is to be expected when you have one person responsible for maintaining something that massive.

Three cheers for Peter and http://planetfriendly.net and http://www.goodworkcanada.ca ! THANK YOU for all of your hard work!!!
I must say I am somewhat perplexed by the Mr Blanchard too who has posted comments here. If you google www.workcabin.ca you will see how popular it is, but you will also see that this individual always submits comments all over the web that appear to be designed to attack this new green job site and divert attention to his own website www.goodworkcanada.ca and/or another site www.eco.ca that has nothing to do with him, or one he's maybe in cahoots with too. He is either afraid of competition or just mean spirited.
I give www.workcabin.ca a lot of credit for doing something very unique for a green job site and that's actually being green themselves. Who would have thought....a green green jobs board. Give 'em props because they are definitely leading the way. I can't understand why anyone would try to deflect attention away from their responsible approach, as a previous poster has done, unless such a person runs a site that is being impacted by this new job site startup
The majority of green jobs in Canada are posted at either GoodWork Canada or ECO. There are other sites that serve specific sectors such as solar, wind and green building. Some green corporate jobs can be found at Workopolis and other mainstream sites, but you have to dig. There are also many jobs that don't make it to any job boards -- that's where job search tips, networking, etc., comes in handy. If you really want to work green, you can probably find a way! See www.GoodWorkCanada.ca and www.ECO.ca . For green building jobs, see also www.cagbc.org/cagbc/jobs.htm . For more renewable energy jobs, follow the links at www.planetfriendly.net/energy.html#solar . For other green job sites and resources, see www.Green-Jobs.ca .
I think we'll see more changes towards a sustainable lifestyle when the government realizes that the long-term effects of ecologically sound methods of living will outrun the short-term benefits of using oil to boost our current economy. However, human nature makes this relatively rational approach not as obvious, just like getting drunk over and over again, relinquishing yourself to the consequences of alcohol intoxication, or smoking. Another example, second hand smoking is kindda like air pollution: air masses flowing to nearby pristine-like area carrying pollutants downwind from smoke stacks of a petroleum factory. The government should realize that by going green, we'll be better off in the future economically by: 1) a large majority of the health care costs will be slashed by addressing environmentally-linked health problems, some examples that come to mind easily are asthma and cancers 2) a new sector opening more jobs 3) less dependence on other countries if we harness energy from the wind, earth and sun 4) internationally, Canada is known for its vast natural areas and diverse ecological regions, so if we can find ways to show off why this is a beautiful country, we could boost the tourism industry and create a unified identity.
Oil company's down the electric car before, oil is the biggest money market in the world, an I can't see it changing anytime soon. Oil is worth more then peoples lives are, an if you don't believe me just take a close look at the war right now. Green energy has one big down fall, its way to expensive an considering that more people are poor then rich in this world the cheapest way of doing things is probably going to be the way things get done.
I think people are finally realizing how bad the economy has gotten and how we need to start making changes in the way we live meaning living greener.
How many years behind? I have an environmental engineering diploma and degree, good luck. The first thing people think of when "go green" is mentioned, is St. Paddy's day. Jobs, bullshit! The almighty dollar is the driving force in today's world, not the environment. Not enough people have died yet. I did an interview almost ten years ago on CBC radio, nothing has changed. Let's be honest here, we are doomed. Ten years ago a 180 degree turn was required in order to beat the predictions. LOL.
