The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC)
The Nature Conservancy of Canada (NCC) is the country's leading not-for profit, private land conservation organization. NCC works to protect our most important natural lands and the plants and animals sustained by these areas. Since 1962, NCC and its partners have helped to protect more than 2.2 million acres (890,300 hectares) coast to coast.
People and nature are connected. By investing in conservation we are ensuring that our natural world remains a home for wildlife, a haven for recreation, and a vital resource that cleans the air we breathe and the water we drink.
Through strong partnerships, NCC works to safeguard our natural areas so that our children and grandchildren will have the chance to enjoy these spaces. NCC works with individuals, landowners, community stakeholders, corporations and governments to secure lands through purchase, donation and conservation agreement.
With a staff of about 200 people coast-to-coast, NCC cares for its portfolio of lands to ensure they are stewarded for the long-term. A growing Conservation Volunteer program across the country gives nature lovers the opportunity to work side-by-side in the field with NCC’s dedicated stewardship staff, helping to protect and care for natural areas so they may sustain healthy ecosystems.
NCC has twice been awarded an A+ rating in MoneySense Magazine’s survey of Canada’s top charities. The organization ensures 85% of its resources go directly into on-the-ground conservation work, with just 15% being spent on administration, fundraising and communications.
