The British Columbia Sustainable Energy Association is a non-profit association made up of citizens, professionals, and practitioners who are devoted to promoting and educating people about the use of sustainable energy throughout British Columbia. Their mission is to convert all energy in BC to sustainable energy from clean, renewable, efficient sources. The organization carries out projects such as SolarBC, an initiative with a goal of 100,000 solar roofs in BC by 2020; a Solar Hot Water Acceleration program; and the Climate Change Showdown strategy.

You might also want to check the David Suzuki Foundation's web site. They have a ton of information and publish their own reports on renewable energy, carbon tax etc. Their web site is: www.davidsuzuki.org ~Veronica
Hi, The goal of 100,000 solar roofs in BC by 2020 is really a good initiative. I am interested to know about the mission: SolarBC. I am a student at UC-LA and had want to do my fellowship in renewable energy. I am reading several Renewable Energy Ebooks to get acquainted with this subject. Please share more information on SolarBC mission. Thank you
Hello, I represent a solid state lighting manufacturer that is Vancouver based, owned and operated. We are a green company that is working hard to provide high out-put LED lighting for municipal, commercial and industrial applications. Our lighting saves up to 75% over conventional lighting. Our mission is to help reduce carbon emissions and help make Canada a leader in green alternative products. The typical breakdown of energy consumption for lighting is quite universal from city to city. 25% of energy consumed is for lighting. If we save 75% of the energy consumed for lighting we could save our cities 18.75% of they’re over all consumption of electricity. I believe BC Hydro’s Power Smart Program’s business model calls for a 20% over all reduction. Our lights don’t just reduce energy but produce a true 4100K light temperature that can effectively raise our eye’s ability to render texture by 37%. An increase such as this can reduce the number of automobile to automobile, automobile to bicycle and automobile to pedestrian collisions, saving our universal insurance costs by a large margin. LED lighting also has a real world life of 70000 hours. Under regular use, our fixtures will last over 15 years without maintenance. The savings alone for street lighting maintenance would be monumental. LED lighting is an instant on technology unlike HPS which take 20 minutes to attain full brightness. So affectively we are paying for 20 minutes of electricity city wide before actually lighting the streets. If you break down energy consumption down into sections, we can see that we will always need heat, water, sanitation, food and transportation. All of these areas can be more efficient but essentially there are ways to reduce energy consumption by small incremental amounts. Light how ever can be drastically improved by the way we produce it. We are very interested in any type of association or partnership that we could apply for. Thanks for your time, Chad Roback Light Power Canada
