Gone Vegan

Lindsay Hutton discovers the politics and pragmatics behind a meat and dairy-free diet.

On the newsreel…

Vegan celebs Alanis Morrissette and Woody Harrelson have collaborated with Reco to create a so-hip-it-hurts line of jeans. The formulation of the product is quite happening: the fabric is almost solely made of recycled denim. Aesthetically, they look pretty hot – nice lines, the best of a vintage cut and au courant cool. And one of their cover models looks eerily like a young Tilda Swinton to boot.

To purchase? Well, there’s the interesting part.  Their first run of 300 pairs is available by auction (a la EBay). All fun, or victory to he or she with the highest limit on their Amex? You decide.

Also, somehow I would have never pictured Alanis Morrissette and Woody Harrelson involved a business deal. What’s next? Jewel and Jason Alexander putting their heads together and launching a line of organic socks?

While they’re not piggybacking the struggle for women’s reproductive freedom, PETA has released a new iPhone application. Titled  “Be Nice to Bunnies,” this handy app is a techie’d-out version of their Cruelty-Free Guide. Regularly updated, it allows you to search household products, food items and cosmetics to ensure their testing procedures are cruelty-free and/or not containing animal byproducts. Any vegan negotiating product ingredient labels would find this handy.

Definitely worth a look.
