The DeLish Bite

Lindsay Evans blogs about food, entertaining and her favourite recipes for Green Living.

Well, we are being utterly spoiled for weather this week (where was this over the long weekend?!) and, it seems that wherever I turn there are people out and about enjoying it to the fullest (I am one of those lucky ones who is working from home today so I have been able to spend some quality time outdoors). It is days like this when I am taken back to my time spent in Australia. Simon and I would spend full days lounging on the beach alongside some amazing books and a delectable picnic. It really was the ideal way to spend a lazy day in Australia. Now, I know that most of us Canadians don't have a beach close by (aside from those of you lucky ones who do actually live in the beach). However, we do have access to some wonderful green and luscious parks across Canada which are really blooming at the moment! If you are in Toronto and live in the West end, there is High Park (the ultimate) or the trendy Trinity Bellwoods Park (my all time favorite). If you live in the East end, you have Riverdale Park where Riverdal Farm resides and Withrow Park which boasts a dog park, football pitch, full service playground, baseball diamond and even tennis courts. A picnic is one of the simplest things to throw together. My favorite things to include are a fresh and crispy baguette (preferably from Bonjour Brioche), a variety of dips and spreads, some fresh raspberry, strawberry or fig jam or jelly, various cheeses, some mixed nuts and of course some fresh fruit. The great thing about picnics is that you get to add whatever you like so get out to your local farmers market and pick the freshest of the fresh! Throwing an impromtu picnic with a group of friends? Make it a potluck picnic and have everyone bring along their favorite picnic items. Oh, and dont forget the wine, beer and sparkling juices (for us pregnant ladies).
