Well it seems that not only are our garbage services affected by the City of Toronto's summer strike. Our ability to obtain fresh, local and seasonal produce may be too. According to a recent Toronto Life Article, Farmers Markets in Strike Mode, many of our favorite city based farmers markets, normally brimming with fresh and vibrant summer produce, have been shut down due to the strike. Those on private property seem to be safe and will continue to supply us localvores with seasonal favorites including fresh green beans and Ontario strawberries. However those who operate on city based premises (East York, Etobicoke, North York, Nathan Phillips and Metro Hall) have been shut down for the duration of the strike. While many are scrambling to find a suitable location to re-open, others might just have to wait the strike out like the rest of us.
