Living Green at the Green Living Show
The Green Living Show is coming up fast! In just two weeks the Direct Energy Centre will be packed as thousands of people come out to explore everything the show has to offer.
Like many people I try to live my life as green as possible. For me, it's really important to be conscious of how my lifestyle impacts the Earth and to make sure I have the tools to limit that impact. Luckily, we're living in a time when our options for living a green lifestyle are expanding exponentially.
When I was growing up being environmentally aware meant doing all the work yourself. In school we were taught to Reduce, Reuse and Recycle. These were, and remain, foundational principle to an eco-friendly lifestyle. But at the time they were meant for individuals to do on their own. A green lifestyle meant that each of us did our part while many of the larger problems arising from business practices went on as usual. We could reduce, reuse and recycle but there wasn't a lot of attention from the businesses we bought from.
Today all of that has changed. In our lifetime we've seen how business--big and small--has gotten on board with these principles. From some of the largest multi-nationals to the ever-growing number of green start-ups, business has gone green. That's not to say there's not a lot of work to be in some industries, but we've never had so many opportunities to buy green.
And this is one of the things I really love about the Green Living Show. There are countless companies featured whose sole mission is to make environmentally friendly living easier for everyone. From home decor to eco-tourism, eco-fashion to clean energy. There are products that improve things we already use and there are products that represent completely new ways of going green at home or at work.
Everything about this show displays how many different ways there are of being green. It's completely refreshing to discover that we can live our lives with so many eco-friendly choices that we might never have known about before. It's also good to know that at the Green Living Show every exhibitor is actually green. Every company goes through a green-screening process before the show to ensure their environmental integrity. With so many companies making so many different claims these days, it's nice to know that the Green Living Show is really an event for environmentally committed businesses.
From the business owner to the visiting family, everybody at the show is committed to the same cause. The Green Living Show is so much more than gathering for green enthusiasts. It's ultimately a place to learn how we can all help make the world a better place.
