The Green Life

The Green Life focuses on staying up-to-date with the latest green trends, events and news around the world.

The Global Forest is written by Diana Beresford-Kroeger, a botanist and medical biochemist who is an expert on the medicinal, environmental, and nutritional properties of trees.

The 166-page book is comprised of 40 short essays on the spiritual, medicinal, ecological importance of trees to the global environment and future of humankind. With a mixture of poetic and scientific language, the essays contribute to an overall appeal to treat our global forests with respect and protection. Such topics are covered are: what kinds of trees can be planted to promote health and reduce pollution, how trees communicate, and the dangers of climate change.

The overall concept of this book was very interesting. Each essay could be thought of as a single tree within the global forest. As similar to most ecosystems, as the sum of the parts make up the greater whole. A nice touch was that the book was made from recycled paper.

However, at times the essays were too overloaded with scientific jargon and concepts. It would have also been a good idea to have a introduction and conclusion to better connect the concepts together.
