Silence is not an option

There's something happening in Canada. The federal government is dangerously changing the very laws that protect our environment and ensure that every Canadian has a voice.

It's time that Canadians spoke up for nature and democracy. Black Out Speak Out is a joint initiative of leading Canadian organizations working together to preserve two core Canadian values: nature and democracy. Together, these groups represent the voices of millions of Canadians. On Monday, June 4th, charities, non-governmental organizations, unions and social groups will darken their website home pages for the day as an act of protest to show the government that silence is not an option for Canadians.

In only 3 days, over 3,000 Canadians have already joined the campaign to protect nature and democracy in Canada at BlackOutSpeakOut.ca and on facebook and twitter. You can also help us spread the word about the campaign. Here are some ideas...

1. Share the Black Out Speak Out campaign on your facebook wall. Here is an idea for a status update: I'm speaking out for nature and democracy. I won't be silenced. Will you? http://bit.ly/KC6bzE#blackoutspeakout
2. Visit our facebook page and leave your comments: www.facebook.com/blackoutspeakout
3. Speak out on Twitter using the following hashtags: #blackoutspeakout, #silenceonparle, and #cdnpoli. Here is an idea for a tweet: I'm speaking out for nature and democracy. I won't be silenced. Will you? http://bit.ly/KC6bzE#blackoutspeakout
4. Tell your friends and family about the campaign!

All of our voices are at risk. Silence is not an option. We look forward to standing in solidarity and speaking out with you on June 4.
