Nominate your hero for a 2011 Green Toronto Award!

The Green Toronto Awards are the City of Toronto’s environmental awards of excellence. Green Living and the City of Toronto are thrilled to announce that nominations are now open for the 7th annual Green Toronto Awards.

We invite you to nominate Toronto individuals, families, companies and organizations leading the way to a greener Toronto. We want to celebrate people and businesses helping to ensure Toronto continues to be recognized internationally as one of North America’s greenest cities!

Winners in each of 10 categories will receive $5,000 to further their own environmental work or to donate to an environmental charity of their choice.

Hurry, though! The deadline for nominations is midnight on Monday, February 7, 2011.

The 2011 awards categories are:

Green Home NEW! – open to a Toronto resident or family leading change by greening their home
Green Business
NEW! – open to a business that is demonstrating excellence in green practices, strategies and products
Local Food
— leadership in creating, managing and promoting local food
Community Projects
— any individual, community group, or not-for-profit organization who act to green our neighbourhoods
Energy Conservation
— systems and technologies that reduce and conserve energy
Environmental Awareness
— leadership in raising eco-awareness
Green Design
— leadership in innovative and sustainable green design and architecture, including eco-roofs
— individual leadership that is transforming our environment
Water Efficiency
— leadership in managing and reducing water use
Youth Leadership
— residents 18 and under who are leading by example

The 2011 Green Toronto Awards ceremony will take place on Friday, April 15, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the Main Stage at the Green Living Show, Direct Energy Centre, Exhibition Place.
