Yes, I know that I should wear sunscreen when I go outside - that message has been drilled into my heads for years - and I promise I really am trying to stop stretching my 15 minutes of recommended sunscreen-less Vitamin D exposure. We do need some sunshine to create Vitamin D -- which most North Americans are sorely lacking. I don't want wrinkles, cancer or any of the other horrible disease triggered by too much unprotected sun. And all of these evils are true true true. We must protect our skin! But which is the lesser of two evils: the sun itself or the chemicals in most conventional suncreens? Frankly, that is not a choice I want to make. But are sunscreens even delivering what they promise? A recent study conducted by Environmental Working Group (EWG) found that 4 out of 5 brand-name sunscreens contain hazardous chemicals or don't offer true protection (which the FDA is yet to define) .
