One of the easiest changes you can make to take plastic out of your life and introduce sustainable lifestyle choices (at least I think so) is to get a wooden hairbrush. My longtime favorite is the Bass Wooden Bristle. With natural wooden handles and bristles, this brush is way way way more sustainable than any average hairbrush. The brushes come in different shapes. The rectangle brush is great for brushing or styling shorter hair while the oval shape works well with longer hair. The wooden pins on the brush would be hard but they are actually gently on the hair and scalp, moving through hair easily and giving a gentle scalp massage that stimulates circulation. They also don't generate any static electricity -- important in the winter months when the air is much drier. These brushes also use no plastic, not only good for the environment but also good for your hair since they don't generate any static electricity -- important in the dry winter months. I find mine very gentle on my scalp since it rips out less hair from my head (plus its hypoallergenic). I've also found mine to be incredibly durable (near indestructible, in fact) and sized perfectly for both everyday and travel use. My long, thick, and often unruly locks live for a Bass hairbrush. You heard it hear first!
