Life in the Green Lane

Environmental journalist Candice Batista shares video clips and eco-savvy advice from her TV show, A Greener Toronto.

I always knew I would grow up to be an environmentalist. As a child I spent many family holidays in South Africa's magnificent Kruger National Park. Seeing an animal in its natural habitat is truly a beautiful thing. It's there where my love for the natural world grew and blossomed, much like the animals, plants and flowers that surround the park. I spent my formative years in South Africa bringing home every stray animal I could find, to my poor mom's horror, she always gave in though, something that I and all the animals are truly grateful for. You could call my mom a true "hippie chic", her love for animals and the world they inhabit had a profound effect on me as a child, but more than that, they set me on the path to my current destination. I never set out to do a green TV show but after spending four years at The Weather Network (surrounded by some of the smartest weather experts on the planet!), I became increasingly distraught with the current state of the earth. My passion for our planet led me to create and develop "A Greener Toronto." As individuals, no matter where we live, we can, and should, all be part of the global effort to heal our environment. It's my intention is to create a sense of mindfulness of the imprint we leave on others and on the ground beneath our feet, so join me each week as I introduce you to the people who are driving environmental stewardship in our great city. I hope you will join me in my quest to live a greener life, both on this blog and on A Greener Toronto. Hopeful for "A Greener Toronto." EcoCandy.
