Life in the Green Lane

Environmental journalist Candice Batista shares video clips and eco-savvy advice from her TV show, A Greener Toronto.

Visual essays are a powerful way to get any message across. In researching topics for my show, A Greener Toronto, I stumbled upon Franke James, a writer and illustrator who lives in Toronto, and who takes reducing her carbon footprint to a whole new level. She got RID of her SUV!! And in the process took on the City Of Toronto. Why, you ask? You'll have to click here to find out: http://www.frankejames.com/debate/?p=98. Like me and hopefully you, Franke has a strong green conscience. In her most recent blog she takes on the Prime Minister in a way that only Franke could. The essay, entitled "Dear Prime Minister, You say a pollution tax would wreak havoc on our economy...", touches on a number of major issues facing Canadians today. The essay by no means tells you who to vote for, but it will make you think! And that's the point, especially during this election and especially in these hard times. Climate change is a reality, period! And as Franke notes in her essay, why are we being forced to choose between the economy and the environment? We tend to forget that without an environment we would not have an economy, as everything we consume and I mean everything comes from our environment. Food for thought…hopefully.
