The Claim of the product: The Spoonk Rider acupressure mat is based on the principles of the Indian bed of nails and Japanese shiatsu massage. They stimulate specific reflex points throughout the body to release blocked energy, ease tense muscles and create deep mental and physical relaxation. On your Spoonk Rider mat, 6,210 small spikes provide equal pressure on the body.

How do you use it? You simply lay on it, ensuring that your “trouble areas” are covered by the mat’s spikes—and the mat does the rest! The mat’s spikes stimulate blood circulation, relax tense muscles and induce "feel good" hormones (endorphins and oxytocin) that release feelings of wellbeing and calm.

What was great about the product:

We have to admit to being a bit skeptical about this product, but boy were we proven wrong! Here is why:

  1. We tested it on a waitress, a golfer and a yogi. The waitress stood on the mat for 20 minutes to relieve lower back pain, the golfer lay on it after 18 holes and coming away with tight shoulders, the yogi used it on her neck for 15 minutes. Each of them felt less pain and tension after using the mat according to the guide that was supplied with the mat.
  2. Easy to travel with.
  3. We love the variety of colours it comes in. Yellow really did make us feel happy.
  4. All the supporting materials that were came with it were printed on 100% post consumer recycled paper.
  5. What is it made of: Cotton, 100% recycled plastic and a plant based foam is inside the mat.
  6. When asked about the cotton not being organic, Spoonk Rider let us know their new mats for 2010 will be made using organic hemp and bamboo.
  7. The product is biodegradable.
  8. Though they have no third party certifications, the materials that make up the product are certified.

What was NOT so great about the product:

Surprisingly we found this product very green - it was the item we didn't know we needed!

Grade from Green Living: A (though you may not think you need this - we suggest you try it out after a hard day, it is a great product that has kept your health in mind from start to finish as well as the environment).
