The claim of the product: A disposable and biodegradable product of excellent quality that is an alternative between cloth (better convenience) and regular disposable diapers (better for the environment).

The problem the product solves: 600 million disposable diapers per year in Canada end up in landfills. It is the 3rd largest waste matter found in landfills after newspapers and drinks packaging. Mama Zone represents an effective, affordable and eco-responsible alternative.

How the product works:
Just like a normal disposable diaper.

What is great about the product:

  1. They are hypoallergenic.
  2. Contain no traces of chlorine, natural latex, dye, fragrance, TBT or PVC.
  3. The breathable backsheet is 100% biodegradable and compostable.
  4. The packaging is compostable.
  5. Contains Tee Tree Oil that is a natural anti-fungal.
  6. Just as absorbent as disposable diapers and cloth diapers (passes the over night 8 hour test, no leaks).

What is not so great about the product:

  1. SFI certification is not supported by ENGOs, we would like to see FSC certification or Ecocert.
  2. Can be composted only in industrial composters not home compost bins or even picked up with municipal compost (or brown bins).
  3. The length of time it takes for diapers to biodegrade is not specified.

Grade from Green Living: C+ (Though a great alternative and better at absorbency than other “green” disposable diapers, there is still work needed to complete the cycle. Though biodegradable (over many years) with little municipal support that will take these diapers to compost facilities that can handle them, the diapers will still end up in landfill).
