Canada's Greenest School Announced

Green Living wishes to congratulate Burnaby North Secondary School!

At the end of April, we let you know that 2010 marked the first year of Canada's Greenest School Competition.

Ten finalists were selected from a pool of over 100 entries and about 275 student participants nationwide. Canada was then asked to vote on which of the top 10 should win the grand prize of:

  • A hybrid school bus from IC Bus, estimated retail value of $200,000
  • A green audit from a LEED Accredited Professional.
  • The student or students who submitted the winning entry will win or share $3,000 toward their education
  • The students' teacher may receive $500 in eco-friendly school supplies.

The finalists were:

  1. Abbotsford Middle School – Abbotsford, BC
  2. Burnaby North Secondary – Burnaby, BC
  3. Chester Ronning Elementary School – Camrose, AB
  4. Dover Bay Secondary – Nanaimo, BC
  5. Halton Waldorf School – Burlington, ON
  6. Queen Elizabeth Elementary School – Vancouver, BC
  7. Salmon Arm Secondary School – Salmon Arm, BC
  8. Seaway District High School – Iroquois, ON
  9. Tuc-el-Nuit Elementary School – Oliver, BC
  10. Windermere Secondary School – Vancouver, BC

And the winner, as voted for by Canada, is: Jennifer of Burnaby North Seconday School of Burnaby, BC!
