The AdverBarbie World Tour Part 5: The Tour Concludes

The tale of how 2 young advertising talents made the journey to being green through traveling

As our world tour comes full circle, it is only the beginning for our new lifestyle.  We went through a complete transformation, and came out looking and living better than ever.  Both of us even lost several dress sizes, while learning how to respect our bodies and minds with correct food and exercise choices.  All in all, we grew up.  Many people are shocked at how we were able to reprogram ourselves while traveling abroad and working full time jobs.  Our response is, “we were ready for it.”  We both dreamt of traveling the world, and when you are actually doing it, you mentally prepare yourself for major changes. Now it’s our personal mission to spread our story and hopefully influence as many people as possible.

The most rewarding part of this whole experience has to be all the people that we have influenced. It’s not coincidence that all the girls at the office started bringing their lunch, carrying reusable water bottles, and cut our signature “AdverBarbie bangs” into their hair!  They also love learning about being a vegetarian, even if it is a little comical for them.  They can’t believe how we are perfectly healthy and functioning while sticking to a plant based diet.

What's more, not one of us got sick, ONCE during the whole trip!  We took countless flights, metro rides, and used public transportation and bathrooms the entire time, and barely ever felt a headache.  It’s just another perk to eating a healthy vegetarian diet, and exercising 3+ times a week.  It really kept our immune systems and overall health in peak condition.

Moreover, Michelle’s family turned vegan while we were on tour, thanks to various emails and skype sessions, where she encouraged them to change their ways.  (Alicia was born and raised in an all vegetarian family). Our friends back home, began cutting back on meat, and incorporating more organic products, all from reading our blog and getting inspiration vicariously through our trans-global transformation.

We want to continue to lead by example. Our goal is that people see us doing well, and follow suit.  The trickle down effect is so powerful, that hopefully in the end, everyone’s level of consciousness can be raised a notch higher, and we’ll be that much closer to living a more sustainable, earth-friendly life!  Funny how a better you, means a better planet.  Can’t get any more win-win than that!

The earth is obviously crying out for help, and it’s time that we took a stance and stopped living like there is “no tomorrow.” Every small change and lifestyle tweak is one step towards healing the wounds of our planet.  If two young American women can travel the world by themselves, and emerge with an eco-conscience, all while living thousands of miles from the comforts of home, so can you.  Our favorite motto is “If we can do it, you can do it!”

Anyway you look at the last 9 months, one thing is for sure, it has been an incredible journey. We not only became independent international women of the world, but also found a deep calling we never knew we had to help our home planet. Promoting our new lifestyle has become a source of passion. We want to make an effort to reach out to as many people as possible to spread the good news that if we can do it so can you! Change is not only possible but can build character and be rewarding in the end.

UPDATE: So here we are, with mere days to go in Brazil, and we just found out we will be moving to New York City for our last stop on the World Tour.  We are so excited to see our family and friends, and teach them (and everyone else we meet) about our experiences abroad.  It’s not too often that you hear about such young women traveling the world, alone, for such a lengthy time.  It’s going to be an amazing summer in NYC, and we plan on blogging all about it.  So we invite you to come along for the ride, as we take on another one of the best cities in the world, the big Apple, starting this July 2010.
