Green Living comes to Vancouver!

(Feb 28, 2008) It’s been a hectic week as we finish our final preparations for the Vancouver Green Living Show, from February 29th until March 2 at BC Place.

At the centre
Our know how is at the heart of our first show in Vancouver. We’ve gathered together exhibitors with hundreds of green products and services, everything from alternative energy sources, to organic foods and wine, to eco-fashions and alternative-powered vehicles.

Not just stuff
However, the Green Living Show is more than just a consumer exhibition. The main emphasis of the show will be on education. We are going to give you information and solutions for those who are looking for ways to “live greener”.

You can count on truly “green” products and solutions at the show. In fact, to ensure that only credible and legitimate green goods and services are featured, each and every exhibitor has been evaluated by a screening committee before being accepted, to ensure environmental standards are met.

Hear from the experts
Throughout the course of the weekend, the main stage will present a diverse roster of green icons, celebrities and experts. Hear about the latest on sustainable energy generation, green building, transportation, environmental education, home and garden, fashion and beauty, food and beverage, health and fitness, eco-travel, environmental non-government organizations and green business.

Our green speakers include:
  • Stephen Lewis: Formerly the UN Secretary-General’s special envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa, Professor, Author, Activist.
  • Ed Begley Jr.: Actor, Environmental Activist, Star of HGTV’s Living with Ed, Author.
  • Jean-Michel Cousteau: Explorer, Environmentalist, Educator and Film Producer.
  • Dr. Roberta Bondar: Scientist, Astronaut, Neurologist, Author and Fervent Environmentalist.
  • Sheila Watt-Cloutier: Advocate for Arctic Human Rights, Environmentalist and Nobel Peace Prize Nominee.
  • Rex Weyler: Journalist, Ecologist and Co-founder of Greenpeace International.
  • Show highlights
Come and have fun at our “green extravaganza” with special exhibits, demonstrations and workshops. Featured events include:
  • Hug the Green Living Tree: You won’t be able to miss the 30-foot living Western Red Cedar at the show. Write an environmental message on the black board next to it, then wrap your arms around the tree and have your photo taken. Photos will be available for viewing online (www.greenlivingonline.com) after the show as a reminder of the importance of BC’s trees and forests.
  • Test, Ride and Drive: Take a green machine out for a spin. Experience electric drive first hand by test riding battery, hybrid and fuel cell electric vehicles at the show.
  • Green Living Kids Zone: A colourful 60’ x 60’ kids and youth space with fun eco-activities that touch on topics like conservation, recycling, ecosystems, animal habitat, renewable and non-renewable resources. A central stage will be host to a series of performers and activities including singers Bobs and Lolo and solar power robot races.
  • Eco-Fashion Shows: Featuring eco-friendly fashions made with re-purposed, recycled materials. Doing good while looking great is the driving force in this presentation.
  • Cooking Stage: See top chefs cook up flavourful masterpieces with a “green” theme, including Stefan Pimenta (Le Gavroche), Peter Robertson, (Raincity Grill), Quang Dang (C Restaurant), Brian Fowke (Metro Restaurant), Chris Whittaker (O’Doul’s Restaurant/Listel Hotel), Dave Davis (Culinary at Simon Fraser University).
  • It’s going to be all green and all fun. Our president and CEO, Laurie Simmonds, says it best, “Shop, sample, taste, learn and enjoy yourself!”

Too busy or too far away to attend the show? Don’t worry. We will be bringing you show highlights on our website all weekend!
