The Projecting Change Film Festival (PCFF) promises four days of provocative and positive films on sustainability and the environment. But Vancouver’s first-ever all green film festival also includes some fun events including an opening night party.

Daily themes
Each day's films focus on specific themes: Food & Agriculture, Sustainable Energy Sources, Building Methods, Consumer Goods, Kids & the Environment.

The profits from each film are all donated to local charities, including Kids Up Front, SAWA Global, CoDev, Intersections Media, Farm Folk City Folk, Impossible 2 Possible.

High-tech interviews
As a true testament to the green and sustainable nature of PCFF, filmmakers are being digitally beamed in from various parts of the globe to participate in live audience Q&A’s. This shrinks the festival’s carbon footprint and is a new way to provide the traditional audience discussions and feedback.

Motivating speakers
Ray Zahab, founder of Impossible2Possible (I2P) will be speaking at the gala on opening night. Zahab recently ran across the entire Sahara Desert (4,500 miles, 111 days, 12-14 hours/day) to raise awareness for clean water initiatives in Africa. His company I2P conceives and executes seemingly impossible athletic adventures to inspire and educate the world’s youth about environmental issues and their social impact.

Special events
Special events and activities include the exciting gala for opening night along with Midnight Madness Screenings with organic beer and wine available.
Kids’ Day Sunday is packed full of great animated films, live theatre troops and interactive activities. (Kids bring your mom and receive a complimentary Sustainable Mother’s Day Gift Set from LUSH)

Discounts on tickets
Green Living Readers can get a discount when buying tickets online. (Your discount code is PCFF82). Bring a bike helmet or bus pass and receive $2 off your admission.

And… great films!
Some of the films include:
  • FLOW: FOR LOVE OF WATER (Dir. Irena Salina, USA, 2007) Water is the very essence of life, sustaining every being on the planet. 'Flow' confronts the disturbing reality that our crucial resource is dwindling and greed just may be the cause.
  • KING CORN (Dir. Aaron Woolf, USA 2007) is a fun feature documentary about two friends, one acre of corn, and the subsidized crop that drives a fast-food nation.
  • EVERYTHING’S COOL (Dir. Daniel B. Gold & Judith Helfand, USA, 2007) as toxic comedy about global warming.
  • MINE YOUR OWN BUSINESS (Dir. Phelim McAleer, U.K., 2006) exposes the dark side of environmentalism and hacks away at the cosy image of environmentalists as well meaning, harmless activists.
  • TAKING ROOT: THE VISION OF WANGARI MAAATHAI (Dir. Lisa Merton and Alan Dater, 2008) tells the dramatic story of Kenyan Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Wangari Maathai, whose simple act of planting trees grew into a nationwide movement to safeguard the environment, protect human rights and defend democracy.
  • SAVING LUNA (Dir. Suzanne Chisholm & Michael Parfit, Canada, 2007) is the true and heartfelt story about a young killer whale, nicknamed Luna, who was separated from his pod off the West Coast of Vancouver Island.
