About Us

Key Publishers Company Ltd. has been a communications company since 1962, involved in such titles as Toronto Life, Canadian Business, Canadian Geographic, Canadian Art and other publications and book-publishing companies. Key is currently focused on encouraging the preservation of biodiversity, protecting natural habitats, investing in the environmental economy and spreading the environmental message to the public through its practices and publications.

The success of these endeavours has prompted us to create two green divisions: Green Living Enterprises and Investeco Capital Corporation.

Green Living Enterprises

Green Living Enterprises was one of the first companies in Canada to recognize the crucial importance of protecting the environment for future generations.

It is now widely recognized as an authentically green and media-savvy environmental expert, with expertise in magazine and book publishing, custom publishing, corporate consulting, brand promotion, event management, sponsorships and fundraising.

Its publications include the largest-circulation magazine in Canada - The Home Depot´s Eco Options - as well as Green Living, Green Living Kids, Healthy Home and the pocket-sized book Green Tips, among many others.

GLE has helped corporations get their green message out to customers and employees. It has arranged gala fundraisers for organizations such as World Wildlife Fund and Environmental Defence. Three years ago, it founded, in partnership with the City of Toronto, the Green Toronto Awards. And 2007 marked the launch of the Green Living Show.

Magazine and Book Publishing

Our goal for Green Living magazine is to inform the "soon-to-be-converted" by providing interesting, hip and valuable information about organics, health, the environment and eco-consumer products, as well as celebrity interviews and eco-home style. We promote sustainable and healthy living that is good for you - and for the earth. Our recently published book, Green Tips, is an everyday guide to living more lightly on the earth. This book is being distributed to World Wildlife Fund Canada sponsors as well as through Canadian booksellers.

Custom publishing

Green Living Enterprises has a full research, editorial and design department that has created such publications as the nationally distributed Healthy Home magazine, the City of Toronto´s annual Clean & Beautiful publication, World Wildlife Fund Canada´s quarterly National Council newsletter, the Clean Water Foundation´s Water Smart Guide, Green Living Kids for the Toronto District School Board and Home Depot´s Eco Options magazine.

Marketing and communications

Corporations, manufacturers and retailers turn to Green Living Enterprises to get their green message out to customers and employees. From green corporate consulting to advertising and promotional materials, Green Living Enterprises communicates sustainable business practices that save money and the environment.

Event management

In 2005, Green Living Enterprises and the City of Toronto launched the Green Toronto Awards. These Environmental Awards of Excellence honour and celebrate leading companies, organizations and individuals who are contributing to the greening of Toronto. This successful event is held annually at City Hall and is hosted by the Mayor.

The Green Living Show, launched in spring 2007, branded the success of the magazine by turning its pages into an interactive consumer lifestyle show. Organic wine and food tasting, celebrity events, green home design, eco fashion and hybrid cars - yet another way to promote our green message in a fun and exciting way.

Sponsorships

Green Living magazine is a sponsor of Planet in Focus, Canada´s Environmental Film and Video festival (now in its seventh year), and the CBC-TV miniseries Code Green. The Endangered Fish Alliance, our initiative to encourage chefs and restaurateurs to eliminate endangered fish from their menus, was donated to Environmental Defence Canada. We are staunch supporters of FSC Canada and initiated a promotion campaign to all publishers and advertisers, encouraging them to follow our example by using forest-friendly FSC-certified paper for all their publishing and printing needs.

Fundraising

Green Living successfully organized and managed the WWF Auction for Nature on eBay, raising over $200,000 in support of World Wildlife Fund Canada´s conservation efforts. Orchestrated by Green Living Enterprises, the entire fundraising effort consisted of the online sale and consumer purchase of a variety of green goods and services from eco trips to environmentally friendly products to organic clothing.

Green Living Enterprises also hosted the live presentation of An Inconvenient Truth by former U.S. Vice-President Al Gore, which preceded a small private luncheon to support Mr. Gore´s work and the work of Canadian environmental organizations.

Green investing

Key Publishers continues its green efforts through two investing arms, Investeco Capital Corp. and Green Business Ventures. Investeco´s mission is to invest in high-growth, expansion-stage private companies in fast-growing, environmentally driven sectors such as alternative power, organic foods and water purification. Investeco´s private equity funds have raised $25-million to date.
